Gillian Whitfield is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at The Christie, Manchester and Honorary Lecturer at the University of Manchester. Gillian treats CNS tumours in children and adults. She developed the treatment protocols for the intracranial SRS service at The Christie at Salford radiotherapy satellite, which treated the first patient in 2011. Gillian chairs the CNS/base of skull Clinical Workstream, which is preparing for the proton therapy service opening at The Christie in summer 2018, and is a member of the paediatric Clinical Workstream. She is part of the Radiotherapy Related Research Group at The Christie. Her research is focused on outcomes of treatment, exploiting advanced radiotherapy techniques, research in preparation for proton therapy, and providing radiotherapy expertise for clinical trials. Gillian is a member of the NHS England Proton Overseas Programme Clinical Reference Panel for paediatric and CNS/base of skull cases, of the Imaging and Technology subgroup of the NCRI Brain Clinical Studies Group and of the NCRI Clinical and Translational Radiotherapy Research Working Group (CTRad) and is the lead for the RCR’s CNS Clinical Oncology Online Forum.
